Nonsurgical Nose Enhancement

From freezing frown lines to softening nasolabial folds, the ability to rejuvenate a more youthful, balanced appearance has improved thanks to nonsurgical injectables. Besides just plumping sunken structures, however, injectables can also be used off-label, for purposes beyond their FDA clearances, like balancing a less-than-perfect nose. While nothing is a substitute for surgery, there are other avenues that allow us to beautify the face, particularly the nose. We can correct a drooping tip, enhance depressions, soften severe angles and renew symmetry with nonsurgical fillers. The procedure takes less than 30 minutes and requires no downtime. Like any procedure, it's important for patients to do their due diligence prior to selecting a doctor for this off-label tactic. Look for a board-certified doctor who has experience with injectables. It requires a great deal of knowledge about the anatomy of the skin and proper administration protocols, says Dr. Sciales.

Philosophy

While cosmetic dermatology is his forte, Dr. Chris W. Sciales takes an approach to patient care that is more than skin deep. The third-generation physician often advises patients who are distraught over fine lines, sunspots and other aging symptoms to look within, rather than just solely at the mirror. “Stress plays such a big role in the appearance of the skin,” says the Diamond Level Botox® provider. “That’s why I encourage my patients to find a good balance between work and family, to eat properly and to get lots of exercise; if you feel good on the inside, it radiates on the outside.”

About my practice:

Why do you employ a minimalist approach?
Whether I'm erasing a wrinkle, treating a rash or applying a chemical peel, I proceed with a cautious hand. You can always go back and do more, but I like to start out slowly and use combination treatments to achieve the desired end result.
What do you do to put patients at-ease?
Ever intent on helping patients feel better, I routinely relax them with my disarming sense of humor. And when a good joke isn't enough, a good piece of chocolate is a sure bet. I'm an aspiring gourmet cook and often bring my brownies in for patients to enjoy.
How do you engage patients and involve them in their procedures?
When applicable, I offer patients the option of holding a mirror while I perform their procedure, so they can add their input. I have found that greater patient involvement yields greater patient satisfaction because when patients get to impart their opinions, they tend to be more pleased with the outcome.
What new team member are you excited to welcome?
I am excited to bring dr. Stephen Nervi on board. As a new associate at Livingston Dermatology Associates, Dr. Nervi will help continue the quality care for which the practice is known. A native of New Jersey from Maplewood, Dr. Nervi has had a longtime interest in medicine that is shared by family. (His brother is a general surgeon.) He attended Loyola University in Maryland and graduated from New Jersey Medical School in Newark where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Nervi is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Medical Association and is a Board Certified Dermatologist.
