Post-summer Skin Savers

In addition to addressing cosmetic surgery needs at Dr. Hamori’s surgical suite, patients can address many of their skin concerns at her state-of-the-art medi-spa. “Fall is when people start to notice the damage their skin has suffered as a result of summertime sun exposure,” Dr. Hamori says. “Signs include hyperpigmentation, fine lines and collagen loss.” In cases where texture is an issue, chemical peels using glycolic acid can exfoliate the skin for outer-layer smoothness and cumulatively minimize the look of sun spots. For a deeper skin treatment that improves darker sun spots and also reduces the appearance of fine lines, fractional laser treatments can help. The sun’s rays also damage the collagen in our skin, which can exacerbate the loss of volume caused by aging. “In these cases, I like to use Sculptra Aesthetic injections to add back volume and stimulate collagen production to counteract those effects.”

Understanding Facial Aging

When we first notice the signs of facial aging, our eyes immediately go to the superficial lines and nasolabial folds, but that is not necessarily the problem that needs to be treated. “I spend a lot of time educating patients on generalized facial aging,” Dr. Hamori says. “We see the nasolabial folds forming and wrinkles appearing, but that’s because we’re deflating. We don’t realize that we’re losing subcutaneous facial fat and there is some bone reabsorption happening in the upper and lower face.” Dr. Hamori can frequently address these issues without surgery by enhancing the underlying structure with injectable fillers like Sculptra® and Radiesse®. “After age 35 or so, most of us mimic a facelift by pulling up and back on our cheeks. Fillers in the lateral part of the face are more effective in creating a more youthful appearance,” Dr. Hamori says.

Philosophy

In the same demographic as most of her patients, Board-Certified, Ivy-Leage Trained, plastic surgeon Dr. Christine A. Hamori speaks candidly with patients about the aging process. “Educating the public about new aesthetic solutions is so important,” Dr. Hamori says. “That’s why I agreed to appear as a guest on the Doctors earlier this year to discuss new labia rejuvenation techniques.”

Total Tummy Makeover

Concerned with the hanging skin and excess fat on her tummy as well as the large vertical scar on her lower abdomen, this patient consulted with Dr. Hamori for a solution. “We decided that a progressive tension abdominoplasty was the best option for her,” Dr. Hamori says. “We were able to eliminate the vertical scar and give her the flatter shape she wanted.”

About my practice:

What is your approach to treating patients?

I try to peel away at the layers to find out what the real issue is. I team up with the patient to treat their concerns long term. I don’t just give them injectables once and never see them again. It’s a process of working on the canvas of their skin, making sure they use the right skin-care products, have a good diet and exercise regimen. Of course, I also address the shape of the face and create a schedule for treatments like injectables to maintain a youthful look. Combined with our medi-spa services, we have an array of options available.

Why did you add CoolSculpting to your services?

There are plenty of patients who are nervous about liposuction, so I wanted to offer a noninvasive, fat-reduction option. CoolSculpting is great for treating pockets of diet-resistant fat, especially around the midsection, love handles and bra bulge.

Why are less invasive procedures attractive?

Patients often feel more comfortable with office-based procedures and many are happier with the subtle results.

In what way is your practice comprehensive?

In addition to having a fully accredited on-site operating suite, I also have an all-encompassing medi-spa where patients can undergo nonsurgical services to subtly turn back time, relax and/or enhance results from a surgical procedure. One new nonsurgical treatment I offer patients is CoolSculpting, an FDA-approved, noninvasive fat reduction tool that requires no downtime. Using cryolipolysis, CoolSculpting freezes fat cells so the body can break them down and gives patients full results in about three months.

How do you show patients you care?

Patient care begins with performing safe, quality surgical and nonsurgical procedures. I answer every question and personally follow up with patients. I am personally responsible for their well-being and like to be the primary contact for my patients. Being a good doctor means attending to your patients’ needs and concerns.
